What the tags are for
Categories say what kind of game something is; tags say how it plays. A racing game and a puzzle game can share the tag for one-hand play, and a shooter and a tower defence can both carry the tag for waves. The 30 tags on this page cut across the catalogue that way, so you can find games by the feeling you want rather than by genre.
A tag only gets a page once at least 4 games carry it. That keeps every tag page a real shelf rather than a single game with a heading, and it means the list here changes as the catalogue does: a tag appears when enough games share it and disappears if they are retired.
Every tag page has its own short introduction explaining what the tag means on this site and what to expect from the games under it, followed by a few suggested starting points and the related tags. The number next to each tag is how many games it currently holds.
