About Fade Road
Fade Road is a free post-apocalyptic road trip game in the browser. Behind you a grey wall of TV static, the Fade, is erasing the world mile by mile, and the only way out is west along twelve stops to the Last Depot at the end of the road. You drive an old wood-panelled station wagon with four slots in the trunk and a spare tire in one of them. The Fade is faster than your car over a whole trip: you stay ahead on clear road, and it gains every time you stop, crawl or crash.
The car breaks in ways you feel at the wheel. Potholes, nail strips, wrecks, sand and mud wear the tires down and pop them, and a flat pulls the car to one side until you fit the spare. A hot engine loses most of its power and steams from the hood, so on the long white straights of the Salt Flats you ease off or pull over and let it cool. An empty tank stops you dead, a dead battery kills the headlights on night stretches, and worn brake pads stop biting.
When something breaks and the part is in your trunk, stop at the side of the road and press Fix. Fitting the spare takes nine seconds, a fuel can four, coolant five, and every second of it the Fade keeps coming. A toolbox in the trunk or a Mechanic riding with you makes every roadside fix faster, so the game is always the same question: fix it now, or nurse it to the next stop.
Every stop offers three cards and each one costs time. A gas station fills the tank (or, when the tank is nearly full, hands you a spare tire instead), a junkyard sells spare tires, fuel cans, coolant, batteries and brake pads, a mechanic fits four new tires or rebuilds the radiator, and a motel puts everything right if you can spare a long night. Hitchhikers ride along: the Navigator makes hazards glow on the road ahead, the Drifter pays tokens at every stop and the Kid with a dog pays out if you both reach the next region. Hit the road takes nothing and costs nothing.
Then you pick the next stop on the map. The road runs through four regions, each drawn in ink like a page from a survivor’s road journal: the dusty mesas and burning horizon of Sunset Strip, the bleached glare of the Salt Flats under a sick green sky, the rain, mud, fallen logs and creek fords of Pine Hollow, and the ash plains and side wind of the Last Depot. Dirt shortcuts cut about 30 per cent of the road but are rough on tires, some routes run into dusk and night, and on others the bridge is out and you ford the river slowly or drown the engine.
Every trip ends in tokens, whether the Fade caught you or you arrived. Your first trip starts straight on the road, and nothing moves, not the car and not the Fade, until you touch the controls; when it ends the game takes you to the garage, and from then on it opens there with your last car picked and one Hit the road button. Spend your tokens in the garage on upgrades that last: a packed trunk, a long-range tank, tougher tires, a bigger radiator and an early start further ahead of the Fade. The Pickup carries six items on rough-road tires, and reaching the Last Depot unlocks the RV, with eight slots and a workshop, and the Long Road, where the Fade is faster and every token is worth more.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Fade in Fade Road?
A grey wall of TV static behind you that erases the road. It is faster than your car over a whole trip, so you stay ahead by driving clean, and it gains whenever you stop, fix something, take a card or crash. If it reaches you the trip ends.
How do I fix a flat tire?
Stop the car, then press E or tap the yellow wrench button. If a spare tire is in the trunk it takes about nine seconds to fit. A toolbox or the Mechanic hitchhiker makes it faster.
How do I reverse?
Hold S (or R) on the keyboard, or the R button on a phone. While the car is still rolling forward it brakes first, then backs up once you have stopped. Space and the red pedal only ever brake and never put the car in reverse.
Can I look around?
Yes. Drag anywhere on the road with the mouse or a finger to turn the camera, use the mouse wheel or two fingers to zoom, and double-click to center it again. C cycles through the close, far and hood cameras.
Why did my car lose power?
The engine is boiling. It steams from the hood and loses most of its power. Ease off, pull over and let it idle until it cools, or top it up with coolant from the trunk. A bigger radiator in the garage helps on hot roads.
What do the cards at each stop cost?
Time. Each card shows how many seconds it takes and how far behind the Fade will be once you take it; cards that would leave it too close are greyed out and the risky ones are marked. Reading the cards and the map is free: the Fade waits while you choose. Hit the road takes nothing and costs nothing, so when the Fade is close it is often the right pick.
Are dirt shortcuts worth it?
They cut about 30 per cent of the road, which keeps you further ahead of the Fade, but sand and washboard wear tires faster and pop them more often. Carry a spare before you take one.
What happens when I reach the Last Depot?
You get a big token bonus, the RV joins the garage with eight trunk slots and a workshop, and the Long Road opens: a faster Fade and rougher roads for 50 per cent more tokens.
Can I keep going after the Fade catches me?
Once per trip you can watch an optional short video to roll the Fade back 900 metres, and the car gets enough fuel to move again. Without it the trip ends and you keep all the tokens you earned.
Is Fade Road like A Dusty Trip?
A little. Both are about a long drive across empty land in an old car that keeps breaking down, where you carry spare parts and fix it by the side of the road. It is our own game, not the official A Dusty Trip, and it is not on Roblox. In Fade Road a grey wall called the Fade chases you west, every repair costs time, and you pick one card at each stop on the way to the Last Depot, free in a browser tab.
Is Fade Road like The Long Drive or Pacific Drive?
It shares their idea: a road trip in a car you have to keep alive with the parts in your trunk. It is our own game, not the official The Long Drive or Pacific Drive. Those are paid downloads; Fade Road runs free in the browser on phones and computers, and each trip is a run of twelve stops with something behind you that never stops coming.
Is Fade Road free?
Yes. It runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers with no download and no account, and nothing is ever bought with real money.
