About Slip Angle

Slip Angle is a free 3D car drifting game drawn like a comic book, with bold ink outlines, flat cel shading and puffy cartoon tire smoke, set in a harbor car park among stacked shipping containers, tire walls and wet asphalt. There is no finish line and no clock to beat on a lap. You score by driving sideways. While the car is sliding, points pour in at a rate of drift angle times speed, and a chain multiplier climbs the longer you hold the slide, up to eight times. Straighten up for a moment and the chain is banked into your score. Hit a wall hard and the whole chain burns, and sliding while you lean on a wall does not count at all. Every run is a short set of decisions about how long to push a chain before you cash it in.

The car runs on a real tire model, not a canned drift button. Gas spins up the rear wheels and lets the back step out, braking shifts weight onto the nose so it turns in sharply, and the handbrake locks the rear to start a slide from low speed. Let go of the steering and the front wheels swing back on their own into countersteer, the way a real drift car does, so on a keyboard you steer by tapping and releasing rather than holding. Tires also warm up: cold tires grip a little less at the start of a run.

There are six courses, and each asks the same three things in a new situation. Harbor Lot is an open lot to learn angle and chains. Clip Lot adds cones: sliding within arm's reach of a cone doubles your rate and pays a clip bonus once per chain. Touge is a mountain road of linked bends, where flicking a drift from one direction to the other is a transition bonus and the gravel beside the road does not hold. Night Port sends a lead car around the lot; slide close behind it for a tandem bonus of half again, but pass it and your chain burns. Wet Lot starts dry and then the rain comes in a third of the way through, grip drops and the job becomes dosing the gas. Stadium is a 75 second judged final where line, angle and style are scored separately, and everything counts double in the last ten seconds. A short comic story runs through the six courses: Kaz, an old harbor mechanic, introduces each course in a speech bubble and tells you after a failed run which single thing cost you the goal, and his rival Rook drives the lead car on Night Port and waits for you at the Stadium.

Each course has a goal score, and reaching it in a single run opens the next one. Every run pays cash from your score, and after each run you pick one of three part cards. Parts change how the car behaves, not only a number: a welded diff lets the throttle start the slide, an angle kit gives more steering lock for deeper angles, a turbo makes the power arrive late and hard, sticky fronts snap transitions faster, a hydro brake locks the rear instantly, a weight cut makes the car rotate and settle quicker, and coilovers keep it stable mid-drift. Cash buys two more cars in the garage, and they drive and pay differently: the light Hachi you start with needs the handbrake to get sideways and is the easiest car on the narrow touge road, the balanced Sil holds deep angles on its long wheelbase and scores 1.3 times the points, and the heavy V8 slides on torque alone, asks for more control and scores 1.6 times the points.

Slip Angle plays on a keyboard with W or the up arrow for gas, S or the down arrow for brake, A and D or the side arrows to steer, Space or Shift for the handbrake and P to pause. On a phone there are left and right pads, gas and brake pedals and a handbrake button. An optional short video after a run doubles the cash you just earned. Nothing is ever bought with real money, and your courses, cash, parts and cars are saved on your own device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Slip Angle?

Get the car sideways and keep it there. Hold gas, flick the steering and tap the handbrake to start a slide, then balance steering and throttle to hold it. On a keyboard W is gas, S brake, A and D steer, Space or Shift the handbrake and P pauses; on a phone use the pads, pedals and the HB button.

How does scoring work?

While you drift, points build up from drift angle times speed, and a chain multiplier grows the longer you hold the slide, up to eight times. Straighten up for a moment and the chain is banked into your score. A hard hit on a wall burns the chain, and sliding against a wall earns nothing.

How do I unlock the next course?

Every course has a goal score shown at the top of the screen. Reach it in one run and the next course opens. There are six: Harbor Lot, Clip Lot, Touge, Night Port, Wet Lot and the Stadium final.

What are clips, transitions and tandem?

Clips are cones: sliding very close to one doubles your scoring rate and pays a bonus once per chain. A transition is switching the drift from one direction to the other, which pays a bonus. Tandem is sliding close behind the lead car on Night Port for half again as many points; passing the lead burns your chain.

Is there a story?

Yes, a short comic one. Kaz, an old harbor mechanic, opens each course with a speech bubble and after a run tells you the one thing that cost you the goal, such as too little angle, too many wall hits or missed cones. Rook, a rival driver, is the lead car on Night Port and your opponent in the Stadium final. The bubbles never pause the game; pressing gas starts the run.

What do parts and cars do?

After each run you pick one of three part cards, such as a welded diff, angle kit or turbo. Each one changes how the car behaves. Cash from your runs buys two more cars in the garage, the Sil and the V8. Each car drifts in its own way, and the heavier cars pay more: the Sil scores 1.3 times the points and the V8 1.6 times, while the light Hachi stays the easiest car on the touge.

Do I need to download anything or pay?

No. Slip Angle runs directly in the browser with no download, plugin or account. It is free; an optional short video after a run doubles the cash you earned. Your progress is saved on your own device.

Is Slip Angle like Drift Hunters?

Yes. It is a 3D car drifting game where you score points by sliding the car sideways and spend your cash on more cars. It is our own game, not the official Drift Hunters. Slip Angle is drawn like a comic book, builds a chain multiplier up to eight times that burns if you hit a wall, and takes you through six courses with goal scores, coached by a mechanic named Kaz and raced by a rival called Rook. It is free, nothing is sold for real money, and it runs straight in your browser with no download.
