Frequently asked questions
How do I cut a part off a wreck?
Stop within reach of the crane, next to a glowing part, and hold Space or the CUT button. A heat ring fills around the part. Let go while the heat is inside the blue band for a clean cut at full price. If you hold past the band the part is scorched and sells for 45% of its price; if you let go before the band nothing is cut yet and you can hold again.
How do I drive with a mouse or on a phone?
Hold anywhere on the game screen and the truck drives forward. Drag sideways to steer and drag down to reverse. Let go and the truck brakes to a stop, which is what you need before you can cut. A small ring shows where you pressed and which way you are steering.
What ends a shift?
A dust storm rolls in from the sea at the start of every shift, and the clock at the top right counts down until it reaches the yard. When it arrives the shift is over and anything still on your bed is lost. If you have already sold what you wanted, you can end the shift early with the End shift button (or E) while parked on the weighbridge with an empty bed.
Where can I sell what I cut?
On the weighbridge in the yard, which pays the full price, or, from the container ship onwards, at the buyer's camp out on the flats, which pays 70%. Stop inside the orange ring at the camp to sell. The camp closes when the storm is about to reach it, and an orange arrow at the edge of the screen points to it while it is open and your bed is loaded.
What is the quota?
Each shift has a target for how much you sell, shown as the big number at the top of the screen. Reaching it pays a bonus of a quarter of the quota. Missing it costs nothing except the bonus, so a bad shift never sets you back.
How do upgrades work?
After every shift you are shown three upgrades and can buy one with the cash you earned: a bigger Bed, a stronger Engine, Sand tyres, a Torch with a wider clean-cut band, or a Tarp against the wind. The first reroll is free. You can also watch an ad to double the cash from that shift, which never adds to the debt.
How do new wrecks appear?
The water keeps dropping the longer you play. When it drops, the next shift starts with a new place to salvage: a buried fleet of trawlers near the yard, the container ship, the ferry on the salt flat, the broken tanker, the drilling rig and at the end the submarine. Further wrecks pay more but the storm reaches them sooner.
Is there an ending?
Yes. When everything you have sold adds up to $36,000 the debt is paid off. You can keep working shifts afterwards: the seabed still has wrecks on it and every sale from then on is yours.
Does it save my progress?
Yes, automatically in your browser: the debt, your cash and upgrades, which parts are gone and how far the water has dropped. If you close the game in the middle of a shift, that shift starts again from the weighbridge.
