Loose Ends

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Loose Ends?

Tap or click a rope to pull it. It leaves the board in the direction of its arrowhead, but only if every hole in front of the arrow is empty up to the edge. Clear every rope to finish the board. On big boards pinch or scroll to zoom and drag to look around. H shows a hint and P pauses.

What are Hard and Nightmare boards?

Every fifth board is a Hard board and, from board 20, every tenth is a Nightmare. They are far bigger, with long winding ropes, so you zoom in and work through them area by area. You still get three hearts, and they pay two or three times the coins.

What happens if I tap a blocked rope?

It bumps into the rope in its way, snaps back and you lose one of your three hearts. With no hearts left the board restarts, or you can watch an optional video to get one heart back once per board.

What are the pins?

A colored pin holds a rope in place. It lets go only when the rope that wears a ring of the same color and symbol has left the board, so pull the ring rope first.

How do fuses work?

A rope with a lit spark and a number counts down each time you pull any other rope. Pull it before the number reaches zero, or it burns and costs a heart and its count starts again.

Is every board solvable?

Yes. Every board is built so that there is always a rope with a clear way out, and every rope can leave if you take them in a good order. Fuse boards are checked so they can be finished without burning a single fuse.

Is there a timer?

No. Nothing in Loose Ends runs on the clock, so you can study a board for as long as you like before you tap. The only countdown is a fuse, and it ticks down with each rope you pull, not with the seconds.

What do coins buy?

New rope styles in the shop, eight in all from Cotton to Rainbow. They are cosmetic only and every rope works the same.

Do I need to download anything or pay?

No. Loose Ends runs directly in the browser with no download, plugin or account. It is free; optional short videos give extra hints, a heart back or double chapter coins.

Is Loose Ends like Tap Away?

Yes. You tap a piece and it slides off the board in the direction of its arrow, but only if the path to the edge is clear. It is our own game, not the official Tap Away. In Loose Ends the pieces are ropes that bend around corners, a blocked tap costs one of three hearts, and later boards add pins, fuses and huge Nightmare boards you zoom into. Nothing runs on a timer, and it is free to play in any browser without a download.
