Find the longest word first
The letter wheel always contains the letters of the longest word in the grid, so start by looking for a word that uses most or all of them. Its letters then anchor the crossword and reveal the length of every word that crosses it.
Try common endings and beginnings
Add -S, -ED, -ER or -ING to any short word you have found, and try RE-, UN- or S- in front. Half the words in a typical level are a shorter word with one of these attached.
Use the grid as the clue
The blanks are not decoration: a five-letter slot crossing a word at its second letter tells you where a specific letter sits. Swipe words that fit the shape rather than every word you can spell — words that are not in the grid do not count.
Rotate the wheel in your head
A set of letters looks like one word until you read it in a different order. Shuffle the wheel, or mentally start from a different letter, and a hidden word usually appears within a few seconds.
Spend hints on crossings, not ends
A revealed letter at a crossing helps two words at once; a letter at the end of a lone word helps one. If you use a hint, place it where the grid is densest.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a time limit?
No. Word Connect has no timer at all. Levels never expire and nothing counts down, so you can take as long as you want on a puzzle.
How many levels are there?
There are 100 hand-crafted levels in five places of twenty levels each. Each gives you a set of letters and a crossword grid, and every word in the grid can be spelled from those same letters. You can replay any level you have opened from the level select.
How do stars work?
Stars count the hints you used. Clear a level without a hint for three stars, with one or two hints for two, and with more for one. Your best result is kept, so you can replay a level later to improve it.
What are bonus words?
Bonus words are valid words you can spell from the letter wheel that are not part of the crossword grid. Finding them earns extra coins, so exploring the letters is rewarded even when it does not advance the level.
What should I do when I am stuck?
Try the Shuffle button to rearrange the letter wheel — a new arrangement often reveals words your eyes had stopped seeing. Focus on the shortest slots first, since filling those exposes letters that make the longer words easier to spot. The Hint button reveals a letter if you need it.
