About Timber Planet

Timber Planet is a free idle game you can play in your browser with no download. A tiny planet turns in a dusky sky, covered in a thick low-poly forest, and a log cabin sits in one small clearing. Next to it stands one toy lumberjack with a red beanie and an axe. Your job is to clear the whole planet, every last tree, and the bar at the top counts down how many trees are left. When it reaches zero you fly on to the next planet.

Your lumberjacks work by themselves, and you can watch all of it. Each one walks to a tree, swings his axe until it creaks and falls, picks up a log and walks it home. Coins arrive only when a log reaches the cabin or a sawmill, so the long walk back is the thing you are always fighting. Tap a tree to hit it with your own axe: every tap is one swing, and the crew heads to the tree you tapped next. Drag the planet or use the arrow keys to turn it, and use the mouse wheel, a pinch or the plus and minus keys to zoom from the whole planet down to a lumberjack at his work.

Coins buy a bigger crew and better gear. Hire adds one more lumberjack. A better axe makes every swing count for more, boots make the whole crew walk faster, and the wheelbarrow lets each trip carry more logs. Later, trucks drive out to the log piles and haul ten at a time. Sawmills are buildings you place yourself: put one on the edge of the forest and every log near it walks a much shorter way. Trails that get walked a lot wear into dirt paths that are quicker to walk, and now and then a golden tree appears that is worth a big bonus if you fell it in time.

There are five planets, and each one changes the job. Greenwood is the gentle first forest, with a few oak groves that heal unless two or three axes work on them at once. Riverbend has a river across it: build a sawmill on the lake shore and every lumberjack can toss his logs into the water, which floats them to the mill. Frostpeak is under deep snow that slows everyone down, and its frozen pines take no axe until a campfire you build thaws them. Redwood has giant sequoias that only the harvester can bring down, and windstorms that flatten whole strips of forest for free logs. Ember has lava vents that set the forest on fire, and burnt trees give no wood, so you cut firebreaks in front of the flames.

Clearing a planet gives you golden pinecones, which make every log worth more and every swing hit harder for good, on every planet after it. When all five are bare, a new galaxy of five forests begins with your pinecones still in your pocket. Your crew keeps working a little while you are away, at a third of the speed and for fifteen minutes at most, and a short video can repeat what they did. A Work ×2 button doubles everything for a couple of minutes if you want it, and a daily reward adds coins when you come back. Your planet, crew, buildings and upgrades are saved in your browser.

Timber Planet tips & strategy

  1. Build the first sawmill early

The walk home is what slows your crew down. As soon as the sawmill unlocks, put it on the forest edge, and move your next one forward as the forest shrinks.

  2. Gang up on oaks

Tap an oak and the crew goes there together. Three axes at once beat the healing that stops a single lumberjack cold, and a better axe lets two of them do the job.

  3. Use the river on Riverbend

The sawmill on the lake shore turns the whole river into a conveyor belt. Every lumberjack near the water tosses his logs in instead of carrying them all the way home.

  4. Firebreaks before flames

On Ember, look at where the fire is heading and tap the trees two tiles ahead of it. A gap of cleared ground stops the fire for good.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Timber Planet?

Your lumberjacks chop trees and carry the logs home on their own, and each log that reaches the cabin or a sawmill pays coins. Tap trees to chop them yourself, then spend coins on more lumberjacks, a better axe, boots, a wheelbarrow, sawmills and trucks until no tree is left.

Where should I build a sawmill?

On cleared ground at the edge of the forest that is still standing. Lumberjacks drop their logs at the nearest mill, so a mill close to the trees cuts every trip short.

Why does an oak not fall?

Oaks heal over time. One lumberjack alone cannot keep up, so tap the oak, let two or three lumberjacks work on it together, or buy a better axe.

How do I chop the frozen pines on Frostpeak?

Build a campfire. It thaws every frozen tree within three tiles. You can also crack the ice on a single tree by tapping it again and again.

How do I stop the fire on Ember?

Burnt trees give no wood, so cut the trees just in front of the flames. Tap them and your crew clears a firebreak that the fire cannot jump.

Does my crew keep chopping when I close the game?

Yes, a little: they work at a third of the speed for up to fifteen minutes of the time you were away, and a short video can repeat what they did. You clear the planet faster by playing.
