Penalty Shootout

Frequently asked questions

How do I beat the different keepers?

Each one has a behaviour and a counter, and the game names it before the round. The diver commits to a side early, so shoot down the middle. The stayer guards the centre, so take a corner. The mirror covers the side you shot last, so switch. The rusher comes off his line and closes the low angles, so go high. The reader studies your aim while you hold, so release sooner.

What does tapping instead of dragging do?

It makes your taker stutter in the run-up. Keepers who commit early bite and move before you strike, which opens the other half of the goal and stops them reading you. Keepers who wait do not bite, and the pause only gives them longer to study your aim — so it is worth doing against some opponents and a gift to others.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. The game runs directly in your web browser and works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and on phones. Nothing to download and no plugin to install.

How do you take a penalty?

Drag back from the ball. The direction of the drag sets where in the goal the shot goes and the distance sets the power, then you release to shoot. A very short tap cancels, so you cannot fire the ball by accident.

Why does the keeper keep saving my shots?

Because you are holding the drag too long. The bar beneath the ball is the keeper read, and it fills the whole time you are aiming — once it is high he dives to where you are actually pointing instead of guessing. Release earlier, or hit it harder so he cannot reach in time.

What does Composure do?

Composure applies to a single kick. It shrinks your accuracy ring so the shot lands closer to where you aimed, and it slows how fast the keeper reads you, which widens the window you have to release in. You buy it with coins earned from goals, or get one by watching a short ad.

Does my progress save?

Yes. Your place on the eight-club ladder, your coins, your Composure and your best scoring streak are stored on your device, so closing the tab does not reset you. Cups you have won are counted too.
