Eight Ball tips & strategy
Choose the group with the clearer path
After the break you can choose solids or stripes. Pick the group whose balls are nearer the pockets and less tangled with the other group — not the one with the most balls pocketed already.
Plan two shots ahead
Before every shot, decide where the cue ball should stop so the next ball is easy. A pocketed ball that leaves you snookered is worse than a soft shot that leaves you an easy follow-up.
Use less power than you think
Hard shots widen the error on the object ball and send the cue ball across the table. Most pots need only enough pace to reach the pocket; the cloth drag rewards a controlled stroke.
Clear the ball that blocks your run
Look for the one ball of your group sitting near a pocket that another of your balls needs. Clearing the blocker early opens a chain; leaving it means the last two balls of the frame get hard.
Treat the eight like a normal ball, then respect it
Pocketing the eight early loses instantly, and a scratch on the eight loses too. Line it up like any other pot, but pick the pocket that leaves the cue ball with the shortest, safest path — you are not playing position after it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. The game runs directly in your web browser and works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and on phones. Nothing to download and no plugin to install.
How do you aim and shoot?
Drag anywhere on the table. The cue swings to point where you drag from, the distance you pull back sets the power, and releasing takes the shot. You do not have to touch the cue ball itself, so on a phone your finger never hides the shot. A tap without a pull does nothing, so you cannot fire by accident while lining up. On a keyboard you can also nudge the aim with the left and right arrow keys — a fraction of a degree per press, and finer still with Shift held — set power with up and down, and strike with Space. On a long shot that is a precision a mouse cannot reach.
What do the guide lines mean?
The dashed line is the cue ball path, the solid line is where the object ball will go and the faint line is where the cue ball ends up after contact. They are calculated from the same physics the table runs, so they do not lie to you.
What happens after a foul?
Your opponent gets ball in hand and can drag the cue ball to any legal spot before shooting. Fouls include scratching the white, failing to hit a cushion, striking the wrong group first and hitting the eight before your group is cleared.
How are the four rivals different?
They play differently rather than simply more accurately. The Rookie takes the easiest pot available. The Hustler plays safe instead of gambling. The Surgeon sets up the following shot every time. The Shark attempts the hard pots the others decline. You beat each over a race of frames to unlock the next. Each rival is named after a player on the Eight Ball leaderboard.
Can I play against a real person?
Yes. Pick Online 1v1 on the opening card and you are matched with another player for a race to two frames. The break alternates, you watch each other aim in real time, and both players confirm before the next frame starts. If your opponent leaves the table the match is yours. Winning an online match pays eighty coins.
